As much as you love telling stories — people love more to read those.
Whatever you write, whoever you want to reach — there will be a barrier with connection. If you try to sound all technical then you will lose those who care, willing to listen and the real audience you are looking for.
The idea is to tell you the behind the scene of every marketing strategy ever. It works and people buy because there is connection, via story. A tale where you feel love, empathy and care. You are not a customer, you are a traveler on a journey with a mission. Sometimes people will leave you, and sometimes new people will join. The idea is to be open that you need not cater everyone. Because you can’t connect with everyone. Your stories should be directed at one person at a time. And the people who feel that you are talking with them, will listen, care and buy from you. And when you are selling, the idea is to make their lives better, they should feel the value 10 times more and eventually get a result like that. Because you care for them, and only then they will care about you.
Writing A Story
In fiction, you take the route of imagination and make the characters appealing as you want. Sometimes, you lose the interest — kill the scene and move on something fresh, all in under a minute.
In non-fiction, there is only so much you can say because the facts are rigid. They look at you fiercely and want you to be boring as ever. And you surrender. You think the idea of storytelling exists in fictional ones, and you resort to write about stuff you like — the real ones. And the connections seems off. Because the truth is storytelling comes from your experience. There are hundreds of article on “how to do small talk?”. And there is only little you can do to mend the facts, tricks or rule book. But you have your experiences, the ones which you used and failed, some which worked and the collection of few — which you nailed it. Maybe you found a new trick or two. The point to note is, you have stories to tell, impact to make and ability to show empathy. That’s how you grow and write better stories.
You Need to Start
If you want to make an impact, lead others and build an audience then you need stories. Lots of them. You can repeat, experience new ones and be blunt about it. There might be some people who won’t like you and that is the base idea.
You want people to reject you which will enable the ‘RIGHT’ people to subscribe to you. But all this is possible when you start — today. There is no better time. Tell a story about your brand, yourself or the product you are making or the change you intend to bring. It can be anything and you can do a bad job. Because you will learn, act upon it and improve over the long period. You need to let go the fear of rejection — play with words, learn something new and take some courses. Do whatever you want — and become good enough in storytelling. It is fun, beautiful and brings in the desired action.
