How do you eat an elephant? That sounds like an absurd question. To be frank it is more of a quote to remark someone to be more productive and actionable.
We all have huge goals in our life and we all work for it. However if you were to do it all at once, accomplish everything then you would go nuts. Either you will find yourself struggling to get any results which match your expectation or you had already quit.
Big goals often needs to be broken down in small achievable accomplishments. This way you keep motivated and you can measure your success.
Believe And Practice
We do have a habit of learning new things and forgetting about it. Once you start to practice it, you will get more benefits out of it.
Systems do work. Put one in your work schedule. Doesn’t matter your larger than life goals like career, studies or becoming the President of the nation. Write it down.
Now, do your research on what are the 10 hierarchy which exists below your goal. For example, in being President. First you need to becoming the district officer is the first step.
Write down the timeline for each goals. If within that time frame you don’t achieve it, then tweak your methods. Always seek advice from the leaders in your field and keep working.
In short you need to create a checklist, the last one would be your dream. If you have the skill sets, or you will acquire them with a combination of persistent effort, then you will reach your goals.
In the end, you would have eaten your whole elephant. For this is to happen, believe in the system and work towards it. Be lazy and forget everything.
How This Works?
Every new year, we make a resolution about dropping our bad habits and achieving some goals. The very next day we had lost our enthusiasm.
It’s in human nature. Unless we follow a path which gives us rewards in every intervals, we are bound to not follow it anymore. It happens to the best of us. Don’t let it come in your life.
Whenever you had a big goal like reading 12 books in a year. Break it down immediately into smaller ones like reading a book every month. Now list down an action and reward to the small goals.
In this case, the action would be subscribing to a book service like Amazon and reward for every book completed would be social liking. Declare on all social networks you will read one book every month.
Tell your friends and family about it. When you are accountable, you do more. Larger tasks can make you lazy, if you have large timeline. Smaller tasks will push you for immediate rewards and small time deadline.
