Being a kid you would find yourself free for most of the times. To an extent that you would play around and exhaust yourself to kill time. And you enjoyed those moment.
Until you enter into adulthood…
Where you are running aimlessly for most of the day. And the weekend’s exist as sleeping day — tired, exhausted and frustrated by doing things you are not interested.
You miss the vibe which you received by doing your thing in your personal time. It seems there is no time for yourself anymore.
But all of this is an illusion. By simply putting yourself in the decision seat, you can do things which can help you find more time for yourself.
Here are 5 things to help you:
We all have a psychology hurdle. In the race to be nice, appear friendly and make an image of yourself as a welcoming person, you end up saying ‘YES’ to lot more things.
So here is the deal — tell ‘I will get to you later’. Then at the end of day, evaluate all the requests and see how many you can accommodate, want to do and serves a purpose you care. And then say ‘YES’ to few and ‘NO’ to many. If you take only the things you can do then it will always leave you some free time for your hobbies.
Do you know the best thing you can do to own your time?
You have limited time in your day like everyone else — 24 hours.
Make a calendar and divide your time like below:
9 to 5: Job
6 to 7: get Home
7 to 8: My personal Time
8 to 9: Work on my blog
9 to 10: Eat
The above is an example. You can block your calendar as per your daily life details. And make a calendar for week on Sunday. So you know how your week is supposed to go. If someone comes and wants your time then tell your week is booked. Tell them to meet next week and book a time for them while eliminating one of the other task.
That’s how you always have time for yourself. Want more time. Reduce other things on your calendar.
You either get rid of tasks or outsource them. The trick is to understand you need help. And you should do only the thing which you can’t pay someone else to do.
Find the Breaks
In your 9 to 5 job or the college or the church service — you can do the task faster, efficiently and make some room.
Also there is already time in your schedule. Most people do 4 hours job in a 8 hour timeframe. Nothing wrong with that, many people do this because it is tiresome to work straight 8 hours. Manage your work time and do your hobbies while you can in between.
Reframe The Me Time
Consider this – you have 1 hour daily for yourself but you keep thinking of the other tasks — next day meeting and the fight you had with your co-worker. And then you sleep, watch some T.V. and have some coffee. It is your time. Don’t let the other things impact the peace.
For example, watch T.V. less and do something which makes you happy like writing, playing piano or talking to a friend. Don’t let other things take space in your mind. Rather relax in that time by doing something which brings happiness to you.
Mix Two Hobbies
You might be spending 1 hour on writing and 1 hour on playing basketball. How about you play for 40 minutes and write about basketball in the next 20 minutes.
You just created 1 hour of extra time for yourself. This works because you would be writing about your hobby hence you could write better and faster. And the thought that you had to write something will force you to find new lessons, shots and tangents in your hobby .
Some tips might work and some won’t. And that is the beauty.
